End of lease cleaning can be stressful – but it doesn’t have to be. With the right know-how, you can get your rental property back up to scratch and in pristine condition, ready for inspection. Follow these steps for a stress-free end of lease clean.

Start with a Deep Clean
It may be tempting to just tidy up your rental property before the end of lease clean, but that’s not enough. Start with a deep clean – vacuum under and behind furniture, wash windows inside and out, wipe down blinds or curtains, scrub your oven and bathroom tiles, get rid of any limescale buildup – the list goes on! This will make all subsequent steps easier and ensure a sparkling clean afterwards.

Don’t Forget Kitchen Cleaning
Kitchens are where a lot of mess can quickly accumulate, so it’s important to be thorough and pay attention to detail. Wipe down the cabinets (inside and outside), empty utensils drawers, clean dishes and small kitchen appliances, wash out the sink drain, mop the floors, scrub inside the oven and microwave – double check that you didn’t forget anything. Finally, don’t forget the fridge – wipe off sticky spills and defrost it if necessary.

Bathroom Cleaning
The bathroom is another important area and it’s essential that it remains spotless! Thoroughly scrub the countertop, sink, toilet bowl, and bathtub with cleaning products. Pay extra attention to those hard-to-reach corners and make sure your grout lines are free of mold or mildew. Finally, use a glass cleaner to make your mirrors streak-free so they can reflect their typical pristine state.

Vacuum and Mop Your Floors
After you’ve wiped down surfaces and cleaned the bathroom, it’s time to give your floors a thorough cleaning. Vacuum all carpets and upholstered furniture to remove dirt, debris, pet hair, and dust. For hard flooring like tile or hardwood, use a steam mop with a disinfectant cleaner for an extra deep clean. Don’t forget to vacuum and mop underneath furniture as well as inside closets!

Take Out the Trash and Recycling
Don’t forget to check the inside of cabinets and drawers to ensure you’re not leaving any of your own possessions behind. Empty all trash cans throughout the property and take out any recycling too. Make sure that all bags are secured tightly before taking them out to make sure they don’t leak while outside in your landlord’s driveway or trash bin area.
